
JOSEPH TAULA – BIO
2000 – Played Senior Football for Waikato Spears. Despite being only 17 years old was playing starting QB, winning the KiwiBowl undefeated regional champions. Played in All Star as starting QB for Waikato Cowboys and won NZAFA Tri Series.
2001 – Represented New Zealand at Down Under Bowl in Australia. Was starting QB for under 21 Colts playing Arizona and Washington All stars. Went on to play back up QB for the New Zealand Senior men’s team in an International fixture against Australia completing 8 of 8 passes and amassing 163 yards.
2001 – Played Senior Mens football for the Waikato Spears. Won KiwiBowl playing starting QB. Had a record year throwing over 50 touchdowns, ammasing over 2000 yards with only 10 intercepts breaking club and national records.Beat Porirua Knights in National Club Championship again starting at QB.
2002 – Played Senior Mens again for the Waikato Spears winning another KiwiBowl title and a threepeat. Attended the Pacific rim training Camp in Hawaii Honolulu run by Arena Football. Caught the eye of head Coach Tom Posey (Chicago Rush) who did one on one clinics.
2003 – Played again for the Waikato Spears , starting at QB and were defeated in the KiwiBowl by the Papatoetoe Wildcats. Went on to play for the New Zealand Ironblacks National team this time at starting QB against Australia in Oceania Bowl I. Was back up QB for Team Downunder run by Arena Football in an exhibition tornament in Sydney Australia. Was then invited to Chicago Illinois to play the Quad City Steamwheelers in the first ever Arena Football game on American soil by Australia or New Zealand. Was the only QB to score for Team Downunder.
2004 – Was invited to the Arena Footbal Pacifc Rim Training Camp in Penrith Sydney. Again came to the attention of Head Coach Rich Ingold ( Quad City SteamWheelers).Won the tournament as starting QB for the Blue Machines.
2005 - Went on to Fresno California playing starting QB for the New Zealand Overstayers Arena Football team in an exhibition game against the Central valley Coyotes throwing a record 5 touchdowns, with 30 attempted passes 22 completions and 4 intercepts. Totaling 230 yards passing.
2006 – Played starting QB for expansion team the Waitakere Titans.
2007 – Played starting QB for the Papatoetoe Wildcats.
2008 – Played starting QB for the Papatoetoe Wildcats went undefeated in the regular season winning the KiwiBowl. Went on to the next level and was drafted into the 2008 AF2 League played for the Washington Tri Cities fever then was traded to the Stockton Lightning as back up QB, starting most of the season at LB.
2009 – Played starting QB for the Papatoetoe Wildcats and were narrowly defeated in the semi finals this year missing out at defending their KiwBowl title. Joseph went on to play QB for the NZ Overstayers in an exhibition game against AF2 expansion eam the Milwaukee IRON. Joseph was then assigned to the AF2 team the Central Valley Coyotes and rose to start at QB for the Coyotes throwing two touchdown passes in a late comeback for the Coyotes.
Personal - Born In New Zealand, to Samoan parents. Father Tim Toilolo is a Chartered Accountant, from the village of Lotuanuu Western Samoa and represented Wellington rugby under 19s and under 21s . Mother Malama Leiatua is from the village of Lotofaga western Samoa. Joseph has two sisters and in his spare time loves to play Rugby and is passionate to Coach American Football in the future. His idol is Kurt Warner and favourite food is Thai.
